Jean-Luc Mélenchon labeled an "anti-Semitic bastard": Olivier Faure refuses to apologize for the Socialist Party

Having just been reappointed as head of the Socialist Party, Olivier Faure is already facing a controversy. It pits one of his internal opponents, Jérôme Guedj , against the rebels since the latter called Jean-Luc Mélenchon an "anti-Semitic bastard" on Saturday during the Socialist Party congress .
Yet another episode in the long list of exchanges between the Socialist MP - once mentored by the rebellious leader - and LFI since the Hamas attacks on Israel on October 7, 2023.
Faced with this sequence, Olivier Faure seeks to place himself above the fray. "What I see is that, in reality, both Jérôme Guedj and Jean-Luc Mélenchon find a common interest in attacking each other at a time when we need, on the contrary, to find a common candidate to face the real threat that is today's extreme right," he laments.
Before suggesting that the two men talk to each other "in a corner", without "polluting the whole political debate where we need to find a strong left".
Without directly supporting Jérôme Guedj, with whom relations have become difficult, Olivier Faure refuses to offer a public apology , as La France Insoumise demanded. On the contrary, he suggests that Jean-Luc Mélenchon's movement "clean up its own mess," accusing him of "insults and constant mockery" against elected socialists.
In short, the leader of the roses is taking advantage of the opportunity to distance himself not only from LFI, but also from his internal opposition . The latter rightly criticizes him for not sufficiently distancing himself from the rebels. If LFI and the PS have experienced a form of rupture since the nomination of François Bayrou, this issue marked the congress this weekend, to the point that the two socialist camps were unable to reach a synthesis.
